Flight departs from T2 Heathrow
Upon arrival you will be welcomed by your guide and drive about 15 minutes to your
hotel.
Today you will have a city tour of Addis which includes a visit to the National
Museum, Trinity Cathedral, Mercato-the largest open air market in Africa and finally
a drive to Mt. Entoto for the panoramic view of the city
In the morning, fly from Addis to the lake side town of Bahir Dar. After check-in to
your Hotel, you will make a boat trip on Ethiopia’s largest water body, Lake Tana
(3,600 sq km) to visit the monasteries of Ura Kidane Mihret and Azwa Mariam which
are found on the largest peninsula of the lake.
Drive 32 km southwest of Bahir Dar to the small town of Tiss Abay
and walk for twenty minutes to visit the famous Blue Nile Falls. Walk about 20 minutes to an interesting viewpoint. Then, drive back to Bahir Dar for lunch. In the afternoon attend the colourful Bahridar market.
Drive from Bahir Dar to Gondar, the 17 th and 18 th century capital of Ethiopia. (Duration 4 hours).
Drive Simien Mountains 136km, 3 hours
After breakfast, leave Gondar and drive to head to Sankaber- the headquarters of
Simien Mountains National Park- passing rural villages and crossing mountain passes with stunning vistas. Spend the afternoon, walking near your lodge to spot the endemic Gelada baboon
and appreciate the breath-taking scenery.!
After breakfast, head out on a day hike with picnic lunch. Depart the lodge for
Chenek where it’s possible to spot the endemic, Walia Ibex. Explore the pinnacles, valleys and wildlife of this stunning region. The beauty of the ranges can be discovered by following century
old footpaths, and don’t forget to look out for the Gelada Baboons who reside here
amidst the local pasture lands.
More hiking in the Simien Mountains to be arranged when you are there
Spend some time at the park then drive back to Gondar visit the former village of the
Felasha (African Jews) who have now migrated to Israel.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and fly to Axum (touch down Lalibela) – the most ancient capital of Ethiopia. Visit the Archeological museum of Axum and the Cathedral of St. Mary of Zion.
In the afternoon, visit the famous ‘Stele field’ (4th Century AD and UNESCO World
Heritage Site, the ruin palace and tomb of King Kaleb and King Gebre Meskel (5th
and 6th Century AD) and the residence of the legendary Queen of Sheba (9th century
BC).
You will have an excursion to Yeha Temple (5th Century BC), the oldest
standing structure in Ethiopia and Adwa. In the afternoon you will visit Abba Garima Monastery located around 5 kilometers
east of Adwa.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Lalibela which is home to the
12th century hand carved rock churches of King Lalibela (1181 – 1221) whom the
town is named after. After lunch in your hotel, visit the first group churches of
Lalibela (UNESCO World Heritage Site) which are found northeast of a stream
named ‘River Jordan’.
In the morning, ride a mule to the hill top semi monolithic church of Asheten Mariam
(13 th Century AD). The peak of the hill offers a wonderful viewpoint to have bird eye
view of the surrounding area including the town of Lalibela. In the afternoon, visit the
second and the third group of churches of Lalibela.
Fly back to Addis and drive for 4 hours to Langano via Hossana visiting the Melka Kunture
archaeological site, 12th century unique Tiya steles, and the Gurage & Oromo
villages. We also visit the rift valley lakes of Ziway and Langano.
Climb the cliffs above the hotel and walk along lake Langano to spot
birds. In the afternoon you will be taken to Abijatta Shalla park. The park has many
birds and ungulates like Grant’s Gazelle and Orbi and also a few warthogs, Golden
Jackals and captive Ostriches within the headquarters.
At leisure
After breakfast, drive from Langano to Dinsho for 5 hours, the head Quarter of Bale Mountains
National park and up on arrival, you will make hiking around the head quarter of the park to spot the endemic mammals like Mountain Nyala, Menelik bush buck and the common mammals like warthog, reed buck, gray dicker. Late in the afternoon there will be a short excursion to Gessay here you will spot more mammals and birds.
These two days we will depart early, and ascend the Bale massif onto the Sanetti
Plateau, which is between 3800m and 4377m above sea level. Once we reach this
unique plateau, we will be driving on Africa’s highest road, passing close to the
summit of Ethiopia’s second highest mountain.
We should enjoy excellent photographic opportunities in this unique mountain wonderland.
We drive to the escarpment of the elevated plateau and stare down, through the clouds, at the vast
Harenna Forest below. The descent through this breathtakingly beautiful moss-draped forest is inspirational. Harenna is truly amagical place in which to relax or to explore.
After breakfast, we drive to Lake Awassa. Here we can enjoy watching several water bird species in and around the lake, and the ever spectacular sunset. Then continue driving to Yirgalem for an overnight at Aregash Lodge (duration 5 hours)
Spend the day in Aregash. Aregash lodge is a very nice lodge located far from city
disturbance and the surrounding is very beautiful with forests, different type of bird
species and mammals enjoy the nature and different types of bird species.
In the morning, you will drive to Addis. According to the time you have, you will visit St. George. In the evening you will be our guest in one of the best traditional restaurants of Addis to taste the variety of
Ethiopian cuisines and enjoy traditional dances from different ethnic groups.
Transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your international flight.
