Day 1

Upon your arrival at the airport, meet & greet by your English speaking guide at the airport and private transfer to your hotel in Havana.

Day 2

In the morning pick up by your English speaking guide for a tour through Old Havana. Visit of the Capitol Building with its impressing cupola and the statue “La Republica”. Lunch with traditional live-music at the patio or terrace of the restaurant “La Mina” at the Arms Square or at one of the private Paladares around the Cathedral Square, e.g. “Doña Eutimia” or “La Moneda Cubana”. Dinner in a restaurant with special ambience, (e.g. “Cafe Oriente” in Old Havana or Paladar „La Esperanza“ with its 1950s flair. Or at the garden restaurant “La Cocina de Liliam”or “La Fontana”). Followed by the show at the world famous Tropicana Cabaret.

Day 3

In the early morning on the “Ruta de Tabaco” to the province of Pinar del Rio. Panoramic tour through the Mogote Valley with its impressing limestone rocks and the picturesque village of Viñales, where time seems to stand still. Visit of a Veguero (tobacco farmer) and stop at the Palenque, surrounded by beautiful nature.  Lunch “criollo” at “Finca Agro-Ecologica“ or at Paladar “Balcon del Valle”. Dinner at a restaurant with special ambience (e.g. “La Torre”  or at the prominent cult paladar “La Guarida”).

Day 4

The day starts with a guided tour through one of the famous tobacco factories (e.g. Partagas, H. Upmann, La Corona or Romeo y Julieta). Watch the skill-full hands of the “torcedores” (cigar rollers) producing the best cigars in the world. Followed by a visit at Fuster’s house and studio. After a walking tour through Callejon de Hamel with its Afro-Cuban Santeria street art lunch at a restaurant with special ambience (e.g. Paladar San Cristobal). Dinner at a restaurant with special ambience (e.g. El Atelier – La Cocina del Autor or the Cafe Laurent or at La Moraleja ).

Day 5

In the morning to San Francisco de Paula and visit of Hemingway’s former Finca Villa Vigía, today a museum. Further on to Hershey, named after the American chocolate baron, who founded a sugar central here in the 1930s. Followed by a rustic lunch in the Hershey Parks set along a romantic river or at the mudejar-style restaurant “El Arabe” on the top of the hill of Escaleras de Jaruco with panoramic views to the surrounding nature. Further on via the autopista, the Cuban “highway” to Central Cuba and the city of Cienfuegos. Dinner on the peninsula Punta Gorda, e.g. on the terraces of Paladar Villa Lagarto or Finca del Mar, both situated by the sea.

Day 6

Your day starts with a visit of the mudejar-style Palacio del Valle and a walk over the main square Parque Marti with its French colonial architecture and the nostalgic Terry Theatre, where already Caruso and Sarah Bernhardt performed on the stage. Continuing along the panoramic coast road to Trinidad, UNESCO world heritage, with unique colonial architecture. Visit the rustic bar „Canchánchara“, where you can try the local honey liquor before your guide takes you to the Romantic Museum at Palacio Brunet or the City Museum at Palacio Cantera. Dinner (e.g. at the Paladar „1514“, like a museum with its unique collection of antique crystal glasses and precious porcelain or at Paladar „Sol y Son“ with colonial atmosphere). Followed by a walking tour through the romantic musical nightlife with live music and dance to Salsa and Son, e.g. at Casa de la Musica or Casa de la Trova.

Day 7

In the morning to the idyllic train station of Trinidad, where you will board a nostalgic steam or diesel train* running through a beautiful typical Cuban landscape to the Sugarmill Valley with the hacienda of the former sugar barons Iznaga. Panoramic views over the surroundings from the legendary slave tower Torre de Iznaga. Around noon back to Trinidad. In the afternoon time at leisure. Dinner in a restaurant with special ambience (e.g. on the terrace of the Paladar „Vista Gourmet“ with romantic views over the rooftops of Trinidad).

Day 8

In the morning on a panoramic road with breath-taking views to the sea through the mountains of the Sierra Escambray and to the Topes de Collantes with its healthy microclimate. Or (alternative) through the foothills of the Sierra Escambray via the colonial city of Sancti Spiritus to the historic Santa Clara, where Che Guevara celebrated his biggest victory and found his last rest. Visit of the impressing Che Guevara monument. ** Lunch e.g. at Finca del Ta, the beautiful garden of a local artist. In the afternoon further on to the colonial town of Remedios, known on the whole island for its „Parrandas“. There is also a museum dedicated to this folcloric event. In the evening stroll over the idyllic main square with the church San Juan de Bautista (mahogany altar from the 16th century).

Day 9

Today visit the local steam engine and sugar museum in the nearby coastal town of Caibarien before you continue on the northern route, rarely frequented by tourists, via Yaguajay with the monument for the national hero Comandante Camilo Cienfuegos (a comrade of Che Guevaras) and further on to Morón from where 45 km causeway will lead you to the nature-, beach- and island Paradise of Cayo Guillermo. Arrival in the early afternoon. Time for Sun & Beach.

Time for sun & beach or an excursion, e.g. deep sea fishing Hemingway style (optional, not included).

Day 11

In the late afternoon arrival in Camaguey – City of the “Tinajones” (big clay jugs) with its mazy criss-cross of lanes (once built as a protection against pirates) and home of the great Cuban poet Nicolas Guillén. The city, once the centre of the Cuban cattle industry and important railway junction also hosts one of the most renowned ballet ensembles of LatinAmerica.* In the evening stroll around Plaza Agramonte named after the birthplace of an important freedom fighter. Dinner with nostalgic railway or colonial ambience at restaurant “El Camino del Hierro“ or at one of the local private restaurants, e.g. Paladar „1800“ or “La Campana de Toledo”. In the evening enjoy live music and dance at the nearby Casa de la Trova until late at night.

Day 12

Your journey continues, crossing the flat green sugar cane plain to Eastern Cuba. Lunch in Bayamo, where the rebellion against the Spanish crown and occupation began and the Cuban national anthem „La Bayamesa“ was composed. In the afternoon further on to the place of pilgrimage El Cobre in the mountains of the Sierra Maestra. The basilica a meltingpot of Afro-Cuban and Catholic religion and home of the Cuban patron saint La Virgen de El Cobre. In the late afternoon arrival in Santiago. In the evening immerse into the music and traditional nightlife, visiting the legendary Casa de la Trova, cradle of the Cuban Son, where many famous Cuban musicians started their career (among them Compay Segundo from the world famous Buena Vista Social Club).

Day 13

In the morning walking tour in the historic centre and visit of the oldest house in town, Casa Velazquez, former seat of the first Spanish governor. Stroll through the lanes and over the squares of Santiago: Plaza Dolores, Calle Heredia and the stairs of Padre Pico. Further on through the residential area of Vista Allegre with the mansion of the Bacardi Family and lunch at the fortress El Morro with breath-taking panoramic views of the bay and the open sea. Back via the Revolution Square with stop at the San Juan Hill, a battle field from the war of independence against the Spainiards. Finally visit the cemetery Santa Ifigenia with the graves and mausoleums of the national hero and poet José Martí and the Bacardi Dynasty. In 2016 also the Maximo Líder Comandante Fidel Castro found here his last rest. Dinner at a private restaurant (e.g. Paladar Setos or Salon Tropical) or at the a la carte restaurant of the hotel.

Day 14

In the morning through the heartland of the Oriente – a beautiful natural landscape with royal palm trees and the typical bohios of the campesinos. On the way visit of the Finca Birán (museum), the birth place of Fidel Castro with interesting insights into his childhood and the economic and social conditions before the revolution. Further on to the capital of the province Holguin overlooked by the hill of the cross Loma de la Cruz and further on to the beaches of Guardalavaca.

In the morning time for Sun & Beach. In the afternoon, depending on the flight times, transfer to the airport of Holguin and Check-In for the flight back home.
