Rugby Tour: Argentina

Visit vibrant and lively Buenos Aires, try wine-tasting at a bodega, spend a few days in student-filled Rosario, play some golf, try a number of watersports & play 4 or 5 games throughout the trip

 

53.1

Day 1: Arrival into Buenos Aires & Welcome Dinner

The school/club will arrive at Ezeiza International Airport, where you will be met by your local, bilingual tour guide, who will be with you for the duration of your stay in Argentina. Our representatives will then transfer you to the Gran Orly Hotel, where you will spend 3 nights. The group will enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. In the early evening, the group will enjoy a complimentary dinner at a local restaurant with pizza, pasta & empanadas (meat pastries).

Buenos Aires is arguably the most vibrant city in South America. It’s famous for the Tango, late-night parties and its food, primarily steak, and red wine. Gran Orly Hotel provides the perfect place from which to explore this exciting city; based in the business district of Retiro, you will be in the heart of the city. All rooms have air-conditioning, central heating, private bathroom, TVs and Wi-Fi.

Day 2 & 3: Tour of Buenos Aires, training & matches vs. local club/school

After breakfast, and a morning at leisure,the group will be taken on a 3-hour city tour of Buenos Aires, visiting the historic district of San Telmo, the colourful district of Boca, La Recoleta cemetery and La Casa Rosada (office of the President of Argentina). In the early afternoon, the team will be transferred to a local rugby club for a light training session.

After a relaxed morning you will be transferred to a local rugby club to play your first match of your tour against a local club team. After the games the team will enjoy some post match hospitality (food and drinks) with your opponents before transferring back to your hotel. The evening can be spent out, taking in the exhilarating Buenos Aires nightlife. We can recommend from first-hand experience various clubs and bars to visit.

 

 

53.3

Day 4 & 5: Transfer to Rosario and city tour

After breakfast the group will be transferred to Rosario (4 hours), where you will spend 3 nights at Hotel República on a bed & breakfast basis.Relax for the rest of the day, enjoy the hotel’s luxuries or wander around town. After breakfast the next morning the group will be taken on a private tour of the city, visiting the river-front and other places of interest. The rest of the day will be spent at leisure. The hotel has a business centre, from which you can contact family and friends, a laundry service to wash rugby kit and all rooms have TVs and Wi-Fi for those that wish to just relax in their rooms.

Rosario is the second most important city in Argentina and is located on the Paraná River banks. Its beautiful riverfront, lined with the distinctive palo borracho trees, is one of the highlights; there are restaurants, parks and sports facilities along its length. Also worth a visit is The National Flag Memorial, which stands impressively over the river-front.

Day 6 & 7: Game vs. local club/school & transfer to Santa Fé

After a morning spent at leisure you will be transferred to a local rugby club in the afternoon to play your second match of the tour against a local club team. After the games the team will enjoy some post match hospitality (food and drinks) with your opponents before transferring back to your hotel. The evening can be spent out on the town; Rosario is the biggest university town in Argentina, with 10 colleges, meaning that the nightlife is excellent and good bars and clubs will not be hard to find.

After breakfast the next morning the group will be transferred to Santa Fé, where you will check-in to Hotel España for 2 nights on a bed & breakfast basis. The rest of the day will be spent at leisure, with optional activities available upon request, such as fishing, water-sports on the river and horse-riding.

Day 8: City tour, game vs. local club/school and transfer back to Buenos Aires for wine-tasting

After breakfast your group will enjoy a private sightseeing tour of Santé Fe with their English speaking tour guide, visiting La Plaza de Tres Culturas and the river promenade, among other places. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to a local rugby club to play your third game against a local team. After the games the team will enjoy some post match hospitality (food and drinks) with your opponents before transferring back to your hotel. The evening can be spent at leisure or at a bar/nightclub, which Santa Fé has many of.

After breakfast your group will be transferred back to Buenos for the final five nights in Gran Orly Hotel on a bed & breakfast basis. In the afternoon you will be transferred to a local vineyard, where you will be able to try the excellent red and white wines from the area accompanied with a traditional picada of bread, olives, salami, ham & cheese.

Day 10 & 11: Day trip to Tigre or golf, an evening Tango show & a game vs. local club/school

Today you will be transferred to Tigre in the afternoon, a lovely riverside town where you can rent boats on the river and wander around this scenic area. Alternatively, the group can play a round of golf at The Hurlingham Club, founded in 1888, the oldest golf club in Argentina. In the evening you will be able to watch a traditional Tango show at one of Buenos Aires’ many dancehalls.

After a leisurely morning the next day you will be transferred to a local rugby club in the afternoon to participate in your Fourth match of your tour against a local club team. After the games, the team will enjoy some post-match hospitality (food and drinks) with your opponents before being transferred back to your hotel.

 

 

53.7

Day 12 & 13: A farm visit & last game vs. local club/school

Today you will enjoy a full-day excursion to a local Argentine farm with your English-speaking tour guide to try some of the local food, see how it is produced and to appreciate the gaucho (cowboy) lifestyle. The evening will be spent at leisure.

After a morning at leisure you will be transferred to a local rugby club to participate in your fifth and final match of your tour against a local club team. After the games, the team will enjoy some post-match hospitality (food and drinks) with your opponents before transferring back to your hotel. In the evening, we can organise a pub crawl for the entire group, visiting various pubs and bars before ending up at one of Buenos Aires’ most popular nightclubs. The next day you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight home- if you’ve got time then try and visit one of Buenos Aires’ exceptional and reasonably-priced steakhouses or do some last minute shopping.
